Health and PE Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a Health and Physical Education (PE) Teacher Assistant for a permanent position starting 27 January (or by negotiation). The position is 35 hours and 15 minutes per week, Monday to Friday, term-time only.

The position requires an outgoing, caring individual who is happy to work calmly and efficiently with high school students of all ages (in one-to-one situations or in small groups) under teacher supervision.

The successful candidate will need to;

• Supervise/monitor the changing rooms for junior PE classes 
• Assist teachers by setting up and packing down PE gear
• Assist teachers by supervising students engaged in PE activities
• With the classroom teacher, use agreed strategies to manage student’s behaviour, including correcting students who are not meeting school values and bringing them to the attention of the supervising teacher
• Keep records of behavioural incidents as required to share with HPE staff
• Supervise student free play in the gymnasium during break 2 including gear return
• Oversee after school detentions and morning pastoral duty in the wider Remarkables Park area
• Other reasonably requested duties as required, which may include supporting student learning in non-PE classes

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of common sports rules and skills acquisition (basic coaching), and the ability to work closely with students, staff and parents/caregivers.

Applicants must have working rights in New Zealand.

Pay rate will be as per the Support Staff in Schools' Collective Agreement and will start at $28.85 per hour.
